Areas of the Alberta Peace declared an Agricultural Disaster

The County of Grande Prairie has declared an agricultural disaster after the area received only half of the normal amount of rainfall in the last three months.

Dry, cracked fields and a debilitating loss of crops are a crushing reality for many farmers living in parts of northwestern Alberta.

Disasters have also been declared in Clear Hills County and Spirit River.

Other areas in central and southwest Peace County are also expecting low crop yields because of drought.

Some farmers says they could end up harvesting virtually nothing.

Everett McDonald, Grande Prairie‘s reeve, said he is asking the provincial and federal governments to provide more aid to farmers.
