Prime Minister Harper is musing about whether to trigger a fall election.
During a visit to Newfoundland today, Stephen Harper says he’ll have to make a judgement “in the next little while” as to whether the minority Parliament can function productively.
He says there have been increasing signs this Parliament isn’t working anymore.
Harper says there’s important legislation stalled in the Senate and Commons by the Liberals.
He also says the parliamentary a committee system is increasingly in chaos, and Liberal Leader Stephane Dion is regularly threatening to force an election.
He says Dion has to make up his mind to let Parliament work or it’s inevitable the Canadian people will have to decide who they’re giving a mandate to.
A Canadian Press Harris-Decima survey suggests the Liberals and Tories are in a virtual dead heat for overall national support.
