Weekend Storm Impact

The weekend’s moisture did bring some welcome news from the Prince George Fire Centre. It says wildfire activity has decreased and the fire danger rating is down to Moderate, from High to Extreme prior to the weekend.

Latest reports indicate there were likely more than 24 fires caused by lightning in the region during the weekend, but none of note.

The storm activity also resulted in several local area power outages, the most notable beginning about 8 am yesterday. It affected close to 1,400 Fort St. John and Charlie Lake customers and took BC Hydro crews about 6 hours to restore service.

There was also a Telus phone service disruption of about 1 1/2 hours reported on Sunday morning. It began about 10 am and impacted approximately 1,100 customers in the Montney area.
