The RCMP is looking for a man who escaped from a B.C. jail by posing as another inmate during a court appearance.
A Canada-wide warrant has been issued for Dean Sykes, who was in custody at the North Fraser Pretrial Centre in Port Coquitlam.
The Mounties say Sykes, whose violent criminal record includes assaulting a police officer and unlawful confinement, appeared in court on Tuesday posing as a different inmate, and was released.
Another inmate at the jail, Timothy Broadbent, was arrested yesterday and charged with assisting in the escape of a prisoner, for his part in the switcheroo.
Lisa Lapointe with BC corrections says a full investigation is now underway into the escape. She adds the two inmates do resemble each other, but guards are usually familiar with the prisoners.

Lapointe says there’s never been an escape of this kind from a provincial facility.
She wouldn’t speculate on whether any disciplinary action might be taken following the review.
