Police Divers from Valemount are looking for a downed ultralight plane and it pilot.
At a little after noon yesterday, the Valemount RCMP received a report that a small ultralight had crashed into Moose Lake, in Mount Robson provincial park.
The detachment says a bystander observed the small aircraft flying eastbound over the lake at about 200 feet above the water.
Moments later, the bystander watched as the aircraft went into a downward spiral, and crashed into the lake.
The Valemount RCMP attended the scene, and found no sign of the sunken aircraft or its pilot – it is believed at this point that the pilot was the ultralight’s only passenger.
And so, Valemount RCMP divers, along with Search and Rescue personel and Jasper Park Warden, have continued the search today – and it’s believed that the plane could be as deep as 250 feet below the surface.
