The recent rain and clouds across the Peace have helped lower the fire danger for the upcoming long weekend. The Prince George Fire Centre is reporting no areas of extreme fire danger in this region.
But, with sun and clouds forecast for the days ahead, the fire center is reminding the public to be vigilant about campfires.
Always use an existing fire pit – or create your own by making a ring of rocks around your fire. Keep water and tools nearby, and always douse your fire when you are done with it.
If you ever see a fire, report it by calling 1-800-663-5555, or *5555 on your cell phone.
Crews in the Prince George Fire region, which includes Fort St. John, have responded to 209 fires so far this season, and 128 of those were human-caused.
Crews are currently still at work on the Falling Creek fire, 45 km south of Chetwynd. This fire has reached 150 hectares in size and it is not threatening any people or structures. It’s thought that this fire was caused by lightning.
