CP Derailment Update

Update – Jul.04/08
High water levels and migrating salmon mean it’s too risky to remove two submerged tank cars from the Thompson River following that C-P Rail derailment near Lytton.
C-P spokesman Mike LoVecchio now says recovery workers will anchor the cars to the bottom of the River with steel cables…

The cars jumped the tracks near Lytton after being hit by a rock slide Tuesday evening, and one is fully submerged in the river.
We’re now told it is slowly leaking a chemical used in the making of antifreeze, but Mr. LoVecchio says divers plan to plug the leaks soon.
He also says environment officials approve of the CP plan and, there is no risk to fish or fish habitat in the river.
