Council moves ahead with Paving Projects on 79Ave

decided to move ahead with paving projects on 79th Ave and 95th Ave. The first project, on 79th Avenue between 93rd and 98th Streets was objected to by a few businesses that own property on that road.

One was concerned about the extra cost of adding more services to properties after paving was complete. The Director of Public Works said this shouldn’t be a problem as they would be able to work around the newly paved road.

The other concern raised was the fact that DGS Astro Paving owns property on this road and requested that it be paved. DGS is also the company that is contracted by the City until 2011 for all local paving improvement projects. City Manager Diane Hunter said DGS would still have to pay their part of the LAS (Local Area Service) project fees.

The other paving project approved was a section of 95th Avenue between 104th and 106th Streets. That project had no objections.

The LAS is a program that was put in place by the City a number of years ago whereby property owners share a portion of the costs when improvements are made to roads in their area.
