WorkSafe BC says gas stations and convenience stores in major urban areas are the worst offenders when it comes to enforcing the new regulations aimed at keeping lone employees safe overnight.

The majority of the 160 orders issued for violations of "Grant’s Law" have been to urban businesses. They add, however most B.C. operators are complying with the regulations, which not only require pre-payment for gas but a barrier system to separate customers from employees working alone at night.

Grant’s Law was enacted after gas station employee Grant De Patie died when he tried to stop a gas and dash theft. He was hit and dragged by the suspect vehicle for several kilometres.
