The RCMP has now confirmed it will not be laying charges in connection with last November’s Greyhound bus crash in the Alberta Peace.
Police believe weather and road conditions were the primary factors in the Highway 43 crash, about 30 kms east of Grande Prairie. The bus spun off the highway and rolled onto its side, trapping some of its 28 passengers in the wreckage. An elderly woman, along with a mother and her infant son, died in the accident.
The crash has raised concerns about bus safety, particularly among truckers. They note the bus was pulling a small cargo trailer and they argue that when that occurs it can destabilize the vehicle, especially on slippery roads. However, a Greyhound spokesperson says she’s not aware of any changes in company policy regarding the cargo trailers.
