The final day of the B.C. Amateur Golf Championship is now in the books. North Vancouver’s Eugene Wong, fresh off his win in San Diego where he became Canada’s first World Junior Boys’ Champion, has earned himself the title of B.C. Amateur Golf Champion.
Wong came into the day with a narrow lead; he needed a brilliant short game to hang on. On both the 17th and 18th holes, Wong needed to get up and down in two just to stay at 3 under and force a playoff with Victoria’s Parker Lilly. He did just that, then he did it again on the first playoff hole to win the Open.
So, Wong and Parker Lilly, along with third-place finisher Adam Hadwin of Abbotsford, and fourth-place finisher Matthew Cavelti of West Vancouver will make up B.C.’s Willingdon Cup team at next month’s Canadian Amateur Championship in Lethbridge.
Fort St. John’s Travis Eggers shot a 77 today; he ends up in a tie for 48th, while Adam Henning shot an 82, finishing in a tie for 59th.
