The provincial government has announced Prince George will be the home to a new Cancer centre, as part of it’s new Northern Cancer Control Strategy.
The strategy was announced today, and it will include the 4200 square foot facility in Prince George, as well as an addition to the Prince George Regional Hospital, to accomodate a new six-bed oncology unit.
The strategy, as a whole, will cost the province an estimated 99.5 million dollars, including the new centre in Prince George, the renovations to the existing hospital, and the equipment and infrastructure upgrades throughout the north.
The province already has 4 regional cancer centres, in Victoria, and Kelowna, with two in the Vancouver area and 1 more opening this summer.
The new facility in Prince George is expected to begin construction in late 2009, and be complete in 2012.
