The Fort Hotel will be torn down by the building’s owner. That was the concensus at last night’s city council meeting, after council was presented with the owner’s new demolition plan. Council had already declared the site a nuisance property, and were threatening the intitiate demolition themselves and bill the owner, were he not to comply with the order. But, councillors are now satisfied that the current owner does have a realisitic plan for it’s demolition, that should be completed by this fall. City Manager Dianne Hunter says the plan is ambitious, but seems to be the best outcome possible.

Demolition could take a while, as there are a number of steps to be taken. As well, the owner has indicated that he may try to keep the back part of the building (along the alley parallel to 100th Ave) intact, though he hasn’t yet made public what he plans to do with the property.
