The Fort St. John Fire Department responded to a weekend fire outside the Wal-Mart department store. It occurred about 3 am Sunday and was in an area beside the store used for discarded cardboard boxes.
The Fire Department was able to confine the fire to that area and there was no structural damage to the store.
RCMP suspects the fire was deliberately set and is trying to find the culprits. Police are taking public information assistance calls, at 250-787-8140 and 1-800-222-8477.
Fire Chief Fred Burrows reports more instances of the City’s ongoing vandalism problem: at least three rental outhouses have been destroyed by fire in the past week, two in Kin Park and another in Matthews Park.
