Pat Ferris won Challenge Cup Race 12 Sunday, with a time of 2:59:37 hours for the 90 km 2 lap distance on the Montney-Upper Pine circuit. Kent Pedersen of Dawson Creek was second at 3:02:24 and Gary Hilderman third at 3:16:01. Dave Kay of Grande Prairie was 4th at 3:22:39 and Owen Giebelhaus 5th at 3:35:17.
The Blizzards won the day with 45 points to Grande Prairie’s 10 and 9 for the Greasy Chains.
Blizzard Roger St. Jean held off the Andrews Boys to win the 45 km 1 lap race with a time of 1:33:40 hours. Simon Andrews was second at 1:34:00 and Bob Andrews third at 1:36:19. Sam Keats was 4th at 1:38:58 and Sandy McDonald 5th at 1:39:05.
Other times were Ken Nix 1:41:17, Steve Sparling 1:43:46 and Francis Plum 1:47:05.
Coming up
On Thursday is a Baldonnel time trial at 7 pm on the new pavement.
On Sunday is a 40 km time trial for the World Masters Time Trial Challenge. Eight Masters’ clubs from three provinces in Canada, Australia and England will race the 40 km distance on their own turf and compare their times as to which club has the most riders who beat their age class standard. The highest total wins the competition. Race time is 10:00 am at the Cecil Lake gravel pit.
