FSJ Resident Wins at Calgary Stampede

Fort St. John’s Delano Kjos has won the novice saddle bronc at the Calgary Stampede.

The 21 year old wrapped up the day yesterday with a final score of 154 to win the novice saddle bronc and $974 for his troubles.

Delano also won the novice saddle bronc at the Calagary Stampede last year, but at the time he was just coming off a dangerous accident at the Leduc Black Gold Rodeo. In Leduc he broke his back when a horse landed on him in the chutes.

If Delano Kjos learned anything about backbreaking work from last year, he certainly hadn’t forgotten.

The Calgary Sun spoke with Delano after this win

"It was kind of a freak accident," he said. "Last year when I won it, I was coming off breaking my back, so that felt really good.

"But this year feels just as great."

Congratulations to Delano Kjos
