The City is struggling with design of the new Interpretive Centre. In January of this year, the City received a grant of $1 million from each of the Federal and Provincial governments. This was to build an Interpretive Centre to showcase the oil and gas industry in the region. It is also supposed to house the Visitor Information Centre.
At Monday’s City Council meeting Mayor Jim Eglinski said the original idea was to build around the Water Treatment Facility on the Alaska Highway at 86th St. Mr Eglinski wants to use that land as the city already owns it.
The problem is the proposed building is too big for the property available.
City staff hope to have a better design and business case for the Interpretive Centre by later this year.
