Five local participants from Fort St. John took part in the 1/2 Ironman Marathon in Stoney Plain, Alberta over the weekend. The weather was unsettled with some heavy showers during the early part of the race; however, winds were light and several course records were broken. Our local participants did well, most getting personal best results for the 1/2 Ironman event. Here are the results for the 2km swim, 90km bike and 21km run which took place Jul 6th, 2008.
Darren Guliov 65/123 (40-49 male) with 5:30:05, Floyd Polehoykie 64/72 (50-59 male) with 7:15:59, Gord Harris 25/72 (50-59 male) with 5:35:54, Kathryn Fairweather 17/41 (20-29 female) with 5:34:40 and Barb Polehoykie 16/66 (40-49 female) with 5:46:18 with 2 flat tires on the bike.
Of note, Floyd Polehoykie was most improved over last year’s result with an improvement of 12minutes, Darren Guliov had the fastest time of the local participants, Barb Polehoykie was the 2nd fastest swimmer in her age group, Gord Harris was 15th fastest in his age group on the bike, and Kathryn Fairweather was the 7th fastest biker in her age group.
