The three-week labour dispute between Brandt Tractor and members of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 115 is over. With the work disruption behind them, the parties have returned to work.
In the end, the issues went to binding mediation. Mediator Mark Atkinson ruled that there would be no changes to the tentative agreement reached on June 27, benefit coverage would take effect on July 1 and everyone would return to work on July 2. This agreement includes wage increases of 22 per cent over the four years, plus increases in the tool and boot allowances, shift premium, meal allowance and pension contributions for employees hired between July 31, 2004 and June 10, 2008.
Negotiations between the Operating Engineers Local 115 and Brandt Tractor broke down on May 26. Strike action began at noon on June 11 at all company locations in B.C.
