B.C.’s carbon tax is now in effect and appears to have added 2.5 cents per litre to the common posted price in Fort John, making it $1.454.

The province has promised the tax will be offset by cuts to provincial business and income taxes; the latter dropped 2% effective yesterday. In addition, B.C. residents should now have received their $100 climate action dividend cheques in the mail.

However, MJ Ervin and Associates’ new cross country price survey shows, the national average price for gasoline is up another 1.1 cents a litre. That makes the new record price $1.395.

The oil prices driving up the gas prices are on the rise again. They’re up about $1 a barrel this morning in overseas trading and back over $142.00 U.S.
