We recently finished our Annual "Paws for a Cause" walk for the Animals on September 13th, 2008 at Centennial Park. What a beautiful day it was for our event. A little windy to start, but it turned out to be a great day.

We'd like to thank everyone from the bottom of our hearts for the support that was shown today. We didn't get a people count, but the turnout was fantastic and it is always such a thrill to see so many "doggy" people get together (and so many doggies getting along!). We don't know the total amount of money that was raised as of yet, but will let you know if we reached our goal, as soon as we find out.

We'd like to thank Corporal Derrick King and Constable Tim Paulmert for their bite demonstration with Mason, the RCMP's working dog. It was riveting! We were grateful that the canine members of our audience sat so nicely.... and the people did pretty well, too! One of the best questions of the day was offered by a young fellow who REALLY wanted to know if police dogs can have chips!

Thanks also to Dr. Stuart and her family for bringing their agility equipment for us to enjoy. We saw some pretty nice leaps and watched a few overcome their fear of tunnels. We were sad that Dr. Stuart had to work today, though, as many of us have enjoyed watching her demonstrate agility with her own dogs. A recent amputee Retriever named Skipper from Rivers Animal Hospital also paid us a visit with the Stuarts and was looking forward to going home with a new family soon.

We'd like to thank all those who donated today, online or at the park, both individually and as teams. We'd also like to thank those who helped organize this event, those who helped set up and take down, and those who donated prizes, food and anything else that came in handy!

I will have photos posted soon. Anyone that would like to share theirs with me, either for our shelter's collection, or for posting online, please email me at wheatamix@gmail.com with "Dog Jog photos" in the subject line. Indicate to me if it's okay for me to post them.
