Two major local wind projects were selected for an award of an Electricity Purchase Agreement on Thursday.
The Province announced 19 projects in total, including a 434 GWh/year wind project in Tumbler Ridge, and a 204 GWh/year wind project in Chetwynd.
Renowned environmentalist Tzeporah Berman was in Fort St. John on Thursday, as the keynote speaker at the 'Be the Change' event.
She says the approved clean-energy projects are a huge step in the right direction.
BC Hydro still has to submit the electricity purchase agreements to the British Columbia Utilities Commission for its review.
Further project details, including the range of electricity prices to be paid, will be available in the Commission filing.
Meanwhile, 28 projects are still under consideration, which could affect communities in the South Peace.
