Door to Door Fraud

Monday, February 8, 2010

The RCMP is warning Fort St. John residents about several recent complaints in connection with what it classifies as a case of attempted fraud.

Police say an unidentified individual is going door-to-door asking for money for pizza, cigarettes and cab fare.

Residents are advised not to comply with these requests and to notify police of any incidents of this nature.

The local RCMP detachment number is: 250-787-8140 and if you wish to remain anonymous, the toll free crimestoppers number is: 1-800-222-8477.

Really?

People need to be told not to give money to strangers?

How is it fraud to ask for

How is it fraud to ask for money for pizza, cigarettes, and cab fare? Fraud is collecting for a charity whilst not representing that charity...this guy just wants a handout.

It is fraud and it is

It is fraud and it is illegal. He is not just 'asking' for money. He promises to be back soon to pay his victims back. He has been doing this for years and has gone to jail for it. Check out the story at http://www.dailyheraldtribune.com/ArticleDisplay.aspx?archive=true&e=238...

See, the story mentions

See, the story mentions nothing about promising on false pretences to pay back this money...that indeed would be fraud. People who are stupid enough to give any vagrant money for pizza and cigarettes deserves to be parted with their money.
