Davenport wins photo finish cycling race

It was a furious sprint finish at Sunday’s Blizzard Bike Club race. Sunday, July 15, the local cycling club road in a 53 km Cecil Lake road race, which concluded with a neck-and-neck sprint to the finish line, where Matthew Davenport narrowly defeated George Gamble.

Both riders crossed the finish line with the same time, each completing the hilly course with a time of 1:49:57.

Sunday’s race featured a new course, which had racers ride from the West Bypass road, on to the Cecil Lake road, then out to the Cecil Lake Co-op and back. The new course was a grind, forcing riders to climb the three km Beatton River Valley, both ways.

Pat Ferris was the third to cross the finish line, completing the challenging race with a time of 1:52:45.

It was a busy weekend for the Blizzard Bike Club, who also had members competing in events in Kelowna, Penticton and Prince George.

The Club’s next race will be held this Wednesday, July 18 for Wednesday Mountain Bike race. Race begins at 7 p.m.
