Sunday race to determine Roubaix Cup champion

This Sunday will wrap up a three-race series for the Blizzard Bike Club. On Sunday, March 25, the local bike club will race in the third and final instalment of the 2012 Roubaix Cup series, with the upcoming race key in determining gravel road racing supremacy.

The event will take place in some fairly warm weather, as Sunday’s forecasted temperature is plus five. As a result, the Two Rivers loop portion of the race is expected to be slushy and muddy.

The circuit will begin with 8 km’s of pavement, followed by a 12 km portion of gravel and snow, wrapping up back on the 8 km paved trail.

Following the first two races of the series, Kevin Shaw and defending champion Pat Ferris are tied for first with nine points.

2010 winner Gary Hilderman, series rookie Dan Webster and George Gamble are all tied for second with four points each. Depending on who wins Sunday’s race will decide the Roubaix Cup series winner.

The race will once again begin from the Baldonnel School, starting at 2 p.m.
