B.C. Games athletes bring home three medals to Fort St. John

A number of athletes representing Fort St. John have completed their competitive weekend at the 2012 B.C. Winter Games. Over the weekend, young athletes from Fort St. John and the Peace region represented the Caribou-Northeast area of B.C. at the 2012 B.C. Winter Games, which took place in and around Vernon over the past three days.

In the gymnastics portion of the Games, representing Fort St. John were Heather Smith and Jaston Stockall. The two did relatively well in the preliminary round, with Stockall finishing fifth in the final standings in the Girls Balance Beam event with 12.5 points.

On the ice, two girls from the Peace Region protected the blue line on defence for the Caribou-Northeast. Jordan Kosinsky and Cassidy Bell were part of the female hockey team that took home a bronze medal.

Keeping on the ice, the Caribou-Northeast also did well in men’s speed skating, winning a silver medal in both the T2T – A 200m pursuit Mixed with a time of 4:55:86 and T2T – B 200m pursuit Mixed, with a time of 3:18:90.

Both Connor Johnson and Ben Maxfield were members of that speed skating team, each coming from Fort St. John.

Despite only 3 medals coming back to Fort St. John, the Carribou-Northeast finished the games in fifth place with a total of 43 medals which include 13 gold,17 silver and 13 bronze.
