Taylor curler wins Draw to the Button

A young Taylor curler won $10,000 for the Taylor Curling Club as well as $1,000 for himself this weekend. Kyle Kimmie competed in the Junior Draw to the Button at the Capital One Grand Slam of Curling at the Encana Events Centre Saturday, January 28, and beat the competition from four other local clubs.

The contest was open to all junior curlers from Dawson Creek, Fort St. John, Taylor, Tumbler Ridge and Chetwynd, and tested participants’ skills of drawing to the button. The competition involved quarter-finals, semi-finals and of course, finals, with competitors receiving the opportunity to throw on an international ice surface as well as gain some national television coverage.

Kyle won a trophy and $1,000 as well as a $10,000 Curling Club "Capital Improvement" Donation from Capital One for the Taylor Curling Club.

The Draw to the Button event was first introduced last year.
