Huskies looking to sharpen up against Blades

It’s another double-header weekend for the Fort St. John Huskies. This coming weekend, the Huskies will play a home-and-home series with the Beaverlodge Blades, which will begin Friday, Jan.27 in Beaverlodge, then Saturday, Jan.28 the Huskies will host the Blades at the North Peace Arena.

The two game weekend against the Blades will be the fifth and sixth meeting between the two clubs, with Fort St. John having yet to lose to the NWJHL’s sixth place team, outscoring the Blades 31-13 in the process.

The Blades sit sixth with a record of 4-23-0-2, recording ten points in their 29 games played. Meanwhile the Huskies, who occupy the fourth place ranking in the league, have a record of 15-14-0-1 in 30 games played, earning 31 points.

It’s quite a jump between the fourth and third place rankings in the league, as the Whitecourt Wolverines sit in third, with 47 points.

Last week, the Huskies suffered a bit of a scare, as the team and league leading scorer Robbie Sidhu was forced to leave last Saturday’s game against the Whitecourt Wolverines after being on the receiving end of a large body check. It was first assumed Sidhu suffered a concussion on the play, but after further evaluation, the crafty forward was declared concussion free, therefore fit to play this weekend.

Sidhu leads the NWJHL with 72 points (27 goals, 45 assists) in just 27 games played.

Saturday’s home game will be played at the North Peace Arena, with the puck scheduled to drop at 8 p.m.
