The presentations are intended to "Ignite" the audience, and similar events have been held around the world since 2006. In May, Judy Kucharuk, owner of Footprint Management Systems, held an event in Dawson Creek, and she hopes to repeat the uplifting experience in the Energetic City tonight.
"It's an evening that will build you up, and make you feel really good about the world that you live in, and I think that happened in Dawson Creek. We had a really good time."
Topics last spring ranged from the power of words, to standing for something. Presentations can be on any subject that excites, motivates and inspires the speaker, and people who don't normally speak in public are encouraged to try in the safe, welcoming setting.
Tonight's event is being held at Whole Wheat & Honey, so it again will be an intimate gathering. In addition to the Ignite presentations, there will also be an "Ask Me" portion, a casual question and answer period with three invited guests on a social media related topic, as well as Ignite Karaoke, where volunteers make up a presentation as they go with photos on a screen.
"I think it's going to be something that just grows, and takes on a life of its own, and becomes this evening where people can be lifted up, be inspired, be intrigued, let them think in a different way, learn something about somebody within their community that you never knew," says Kucharuk.
Kucharuk says there are still a few tickets available at Whole Wheat & Honey. All proceeds will be donated to local theatre company Spectacular Chair Factory. For more information, visit http://ignitepeaceregion.wordpress.com/.
