The separated and paved hiking and biking trail will run along the south side of 94 Avenue from 96 Street to 93 Street where the current gravel trail exists, with an extension along the east side of 96 Street from 94 Avenue to 93 Avenue. That trail will then connect with the paved trail already running through Toboggan Hill, with the intention of helping close the loop on the city's trail network.
The project will cost the City $269,215.65, which is over $150,000 less than the budget of $450,000 included in the 2012 Capital Budget. $100,000 of that will come from a grant the City is receiving There will also be an increased cost of maintenance for the trail, mostly for snow removal. The only other bidder, Knelson Rock Products, came in at more than $50,000 over budget.
The project is scheduled to be completed by September 30, 2012.
