Backcountry is one of British Columbia’s largest hunting, fishing and outdoor supply stores. The Fort St. John area is home to some of the best hunting and fishing opportunities in North America and often referred to as “The Serengeti of the North”.

Only minor injuries in multi-vehicle collision yesterday

Dawson Creek RCMP say it's "miraculous" that everyone involved in the multi-vehicle incident near the Kiskatinaw Bridge yesterday escaped without serious injury. The collision, which occurred approximately one kilometre south of the bridge on Highway 97 North, began when a southbound tractor trailer attempted to overtake another tractor trailer and ended up sideswiping a southbound red Dodge pickup.

The Dodge was propelled into oncoming traffic, colliding with a northbound tractor trailer. That tractor trailer then continued into oncoming southbound traffic, hitting a compact pickup truck pulling a fifth wheel RV unit. The northbound tractor trailer finally came to rest in the trees where it became fully engulfed in fire. Both it and the compact pickup truck were destroyed by fire.

Another compact pickup truck rolled over and came to rest near the semi trailer, but RCMP say at this point it is unknown how it became involved in the incident.

Despite the extensive damage to multiple vehicles, all passengers were able to exit their vehicles with only minor injuries, which RCMP chalk up to seatbelt usage.

The driver of the south bound tractor trailer that led off the incident was stopped by RCMP in Dawson Creek. So far, no decisions have been made on any recommended charges, at the investigation into the incident is ongoing.

The highway was closed for over 12 hours, with alternate routes for traffic.
