Authorities expanding search for missing Koenig

RCMP is expanding its search for a missing Chetwynd man. Following the weekend, RCMP have confirmed new developments in the case of the missing Daniel Koenig of Chetwynd, specifically in regards to the missing man’s vehicle, which was discovered abandoned the evening of July 12.

RCMP has confirmed that after further examination of the car, it was discovered that the vehicle had run out of gasoline and had been left unattended at the same location it was discovered by authorities.

Further, Constable Lesley Smith, Media Relations Officer for B.C. RCMP Communications, confirmed that a good friend of Koenig had witnessed him driving that same vehicle down the service road the vehicle was discovered on, back on July 10.

However, despite discovering the vehicle, RCMP still does not know what direction Koenig began walking upon abandoning the gas-less automobile.

Authorities are saying that time is not on Koenig’s side, as he is most likely suffering from dehydration, as well as a lack of food and sleep. That, in addition to the severe heat the Peace Region has experienced, could severely disorientate Koenig, making locating him even harder on Search and Rescue.

Koenig, who suffers from early stages of Alzheimer’s, may have also stopped taking his medication, which would further disorientate the missing individual.

According to Constable Smith, all of the above factors have led the RCMP to expand its search efforts, as authorities are now speaking to all residents within the designated search area in an attempt to learn any new information.

RCMP Air Service, Ground Search and Rescue, along with family, friends and volunteers are still on the hunt, attempting to locate Koenig, who went missing on July 10.

He was last seen wearing blue jeans, a brown/orange plaid jacket and was wearing a grey/black ball hat.

Daniel Koenig is described as;
6 feet tall
180 lbs
blue eyes
Grey hair

If anyone has any information on the location of Daniel Koening, please contact the RCMP.
