Peace Region communities receive healthy living grants

Organizations in Fort St. John, along with organizations in other Peace Region communities, have received a grant from Northern Health to help improve health and well-being. On Thursday, June 21, Northern Health announced that 17 community partners from across Northeast B.C. have received the 2012 IMAGINE grant, with the intention of helping to improve the health and well-being of those living, working and learning in the northern communities.

Grants have been distributed from a variety of Northern Health programs, such as Healthy Eating, Active Living (HEAL), Heal for Your Heart, Men’s Health and Tobacco Reduction, to name a few.

Julie Kerr, Northern Health’s director of population health, says her company is dedicated to spreading information regarding the importance of a health lifestyle.

"Northern Health is committed to partnering with communities to support good health where people live, learn, work, play and grow. These small investments in grass roots initiatives support significant changes in people’s health choices, increase social capital as community members work together, and will help reduce chronic disease and injuries in our region."
