Jim Hughson to get Hall of Fame honours

Fort St. John native Jim Hughson will be honoured as an inductee to the B.C. Hockey Hall of Fame this July. Hughson is best known for his National Hockey League play-by-play announcing, and currently works as an announcer for Hockey Night in Canada on CBC.

Born in 1956 in Fort St. John, Hughson got his start as an 18 year-old calling junior Flyers games in Fort St. John. He announced for CKNL Radio, currently running as The Bear.

He went on to work for Vancouver Canucks radio broadcasts, before turning to TV in 1982. Hughson has won five Gemini awards for his work, and video game lovers might recognize his voice from EA's NHL series from 1997-2007. He currently lives in White Rock with his family.

Hall of Fame honours will also be given to NHL veterans Scott Niedermayer and Rod Brind'Amour, as well as Hall of Fame founder Scott Carter and longtime hockey administrator and coach Bob Hindmarch. The ceremony will take place Friday, July 27, 2012 in Penticton.
