Director Ackerman happy with direction of RCMP contract

"I really do like the themes of where they are going with this conversation, the partnerships and governance, accountability and affordability, and cost containment."

She adds that she's looking forward to seeing the draft agreement after cabinet has looked at it.

As mayors, councillors, administrators and Chief Financial Officers are the people involved in dealing with the RCMP contract and paying for the cost of operating a detachment office, municipal representatives from across the province are being given a technical briefing. The meetings took place yesterday, this morning, as well as on January 18 both in person in Vancouver and via a webinar for those representatives who can't make it.

In addition to being given a better understanding of the agreement, representatives also had the opportunity to ask questions and discuss issues and concerns. Local government officials will be given a copy of the contract once the provincial government has reviewed it.
