North Peace Economic Development Commission to launch a regional Business Retention and Expansion

This program is a partnership with the Fort St John & District Chamber of Commerce and Community Futures Peace Liard.

Business Retention and Expansion, or “BRE”, as it is often called, is said to be considered by many communities the cornerstone of their economic development plan.

“Existing businesses provide jobs for local residents and tax revenue for the community, encouraging them to stay (retention) or grow (expansion),” a written statement from the NPEDC reads. “In its simplest terms, business retention and expansion programs encourage local businesses because it shows that the community cares about them.”

The NPEDC says the information gathered through the program provides live business intelligence to attract new investment, foster and support growth of the existing investment, and identifies key challenges facing the business sector of the region.

They go on to say this information is vital to developing and maintaining environment that is business and investment friendly.

“With a mission to ‘support, foster, and stimulate the North Peace region as a significant and sustainable economic driver, through collaborative efforts,’ the North Peace Economic Development Commission focuses on building regional alliances, providing leadership, information and research and eliminating the barriers to economic development in the North Peace region as it serves a regional population of 65,000,” the same statement reads.

The Fort St John & District Chamber of Commerce will be calling to set up appointments to come and speak with local businesses.
