New Fort St. John hospital now open

All patients are now asked to head to the new hospital at 8407 – 112th Avenue, but because this is moving day, the public is being asked to visit the hospital only in emergency situations.

An ambulance carrying the first inpatient left the old hospital just after 8 a.m., and patients are leaving via ambulance and bus every 4 to 5 minutes. he second patient to be transported to the new hospital was a mother who was the last to deliver a baby at the old facility.

Motorists are asked to avoid 98th Street throughout the day and police have blocked it off from 100th to 101st Avenues for ambulances and buses. The same is true of 112th Avenue, near the new hospital site, which is located between 86th street and the East Bypass Road.

In order to ensure everything runs as smoothly as possible, there are no outpatient services available today, and Laboratory and Medical Imaging Service is only available in the case of an emergency.

Visiting hours have been reduced to 2:00 – 8:00 p.m., and will be predetermined based on patient condition. Regular visiting hours of 12:00 – 8:00 p.m. will  resume tomorrow.
